John housley visits New zealand :
During May and June of 2008 I took my regular bi-annual trip
back to New Zealand, this time with a slight twist as I travelled alone with
my 2 year old son!
Also I decided to try and make contact with any Round Tables in New Zealand.
As luck would have it I was able to get in contact with people in my home
town and I was able to take part in a meeting of the RT
48 from Timaru, from my contact Stu Jackson, president for RT New
Zealand 2007/2008 and one hell of a nice guy.
The table meet twice a month in the wine cellar
of a local bar in Timaru (Grosvenor Hotel) and as I suppose all tablers do
we have a mix of socializing whilst going through our agenda.
I gave a brief summary of what we do at RT 1 Brazil and some of the charities we help and well as some of the more
interesting charracters we have had as tablers or still have. I also took
over a print out of a summary of RT1 and also a few badges and a banner.

John and RT 48 president Jonothan Nelson
During the rest of the meeting RT 48 proceeded to tell me about the activities they perform
throuhout the year and how they help those around them. They have as their main fund raiser the use
of a type of caravan to work as a sausage sizzler, selling sausages at events and fairs, and the
major focus with the funds raised is for use within the general community, which for me was an
obvious difference of being in a developed country such as NZ compared to the pure focus on
charities that we have in Brazil.
After having a pretty good feed and reminding myself of some of the beers I grew up with, and all the time enjoying the
excellent hospitality of those in RT 48, the meeting ended with the traditional toast and a few bevvies afterwards.
I would like to once again thank those at RT48 for inviting me along to the meeting and also repeat the invite for them to come
to a meeting in São Paulo if they´re ever over here.
Club 41 For all those who
can no longer take part in RT because of the age limit restrictions but would like to continue
